Life in Rwanda was a mix of caution and uncertainty when I first arrived in 1999. However, after a few weeks in Kigali, meeting diligent and consummate colleagues from all around the world, and connecting with Rwandans and other expats, caution and uncertainty turned into a fun social life, adventure, discovery, friendships and professional success – increased duties and responsibilities—five years of experience as a Field Security & Safety Officer and Witness & Victims Security Officer. Traits, attributes, and competencies that contributed to my success in these roles required professionalism, honesty, integrity, accountability, and being a security-conscious, quick and capable, and hard-working team player.

Ten years of experience working in Supply Chain management working directly in inventory management, property disposal, procurement, warehouse operations, administrative supply services, shipping and customs, and travel services for staff and their dependents, and diplomatic protocol for the United Nations Secretary-General and ICTR principles during their visits to Rwanda.

Skills I used in the development and management of supply chain projects included excellent communication and interpersonal skills, planning and organizing, analyzing and interpreting data, understanding policies and procedures, assessing and evaluating, prioritizing, leading, solving problems, resolving conflict, and negotiating. In this role, I also cross-trained staff, developed time management skills – focusing on priorities that allowed me to spend time on things that brought personal fulfillment.

Speaking of personal fulfillment, take a look at my Life in Rwanda video above. I believe you will agree that my life in Rwanda wasn’t only about a successful career, but also about friendships, adventure, and rich cultural and fun social experiences. Enjoy!
