Showing up for work was a privilege. I do not believe any of us thought we would work for such a distinguished office with a diverse workforce when we started our journey into the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). We shared a common goal of working to fulfill the ICTRs mandate of restoring peace through justice, which was both challenging and intense at times. But what made our time at the ICTR balanced was the respect for management and the humorous atmosphere individual colleagues brought with them from their respective countries. Being led by motivated and highly qualified principals and managers, listening to jovial conversations in a variety of languages, and observing the banter between colleagues will remain fresh in my mind for years to come. It was also special how colleagues came together to support each other during challenging times and celebratory occasions. The lasting friendships made with people from different parts of the globe remain dear to my heart to this day.
I look forward to future meet-ups with former colleagues, giving us another opportunity to appreciate our purpose and reminisce about challenges and good times we had working for the United Nations in Arusha and Kigali.
